The Uruguay Socio-Environmental Fund seeks to map and analyze socio-environmental conflicts throughout the country to understand their effects and identify the collective responses that communities develop in the defense of their territories and resources.

We define environmental conflicts as "social and political disputes surrounding the use and control of natural resources, which arise when certain actors exploit them preferentially and to the detriment of others. These conflicts generate debates on socio-environmental impacts and redefine public problems from new economic, social and cultural perspectives, while driving the production of knowledge that fosters social innovation processes. (Merlinsky MG., 2020)
